TECHNIQUES I USE
I rarely begin any illustration on the computer, I draw 95% of all drawings by hand. I sometimes finish a drawing digitally with the aid of the computer, adding color, text, etc. There aren't many artists these days who don't rely on a computer, so to find one who still works primarily by hand is becoming tougher.

How does one technique vs. another affect price?

Working exclusively by hand takes longer and is harder work, and my prices have to reflect that. Also, some mediums such as colored pencil are not very editable or revision friendly, so it's got to be done right the first time.

Working by hand with the aid of a computer in sort of a hybrid manner, allows me to do things like simple color fills more quickly and easier, and has several benefits:
1) I can retain the hand drawn qualities.
2) Any colors added can be easily edited
3) It can be faster, and more affordable for you.

Examples

Below are examples of each method and how each process affects my price, which will help you to zero in even more on what kind of illustration you'd like. Note: Only variations in color illustration techniques are shown.

Created digitally in a computer graphic application, It looks fairy typical of computer art. As far as color illustration goes, this method is about as quick and inexpensive as it comes. On a Scale from 1 to 10…it's a 2. The same methods were used to make this Jacko, but it has many more elements, more detail, and a much different feel. This would be the next step up on the ladder. On a Scale from 1 to 10…it's a 3-4.
Hand drawing finished and colored digitally.
On its right is an enlarged detail which shows that it has more of a hand finished look than the two examples above. It'is the next rung up on the time and expense meter. On a Scale from 1 to 10…it's a 7.
This was drawn by hand, finished digitaly with a medium-high level of color detail.
On the scale from 1 to 10, it's a 7 or 8.
Hand drawn. and colored or painted, 100% by hand. This method is about as time consuming and expensive as it can get. On the scale, it's a 10-11.
